The International Forums on
Buddhism and Medicine

The International Forums on Buddhism and Medicine bring together Buddhist teachers and representatives of the sciences, medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy for exchanges on the treatment and healing of both physical and mental pathologies.

The aim of these forums is to present and multiply the links between the Buddhist science of the mind and western science, medicine and therapy.

The First International Forum on Buddhism and Medicine in 2002 took as its subject ‘Physical Pain and Suffering’.

The Second International Forum on Buddhism and Medicine in 2006 concerned ‘Depression and Mental Suffering’.
These two events were held at the Corum conference centre in Montpellier and were attended by over 1,200 people.

The Third International Forum Buddhism and Medicine in 2010 was entitled: ‘Meditation and Health: The Therapeutic Benefits of Meditation in Modern Life’ and was held at the Lerab Ling Institute of Wisdom and Compassion near Montpellier. Nearly 1,000 people attended.

Lerab Ling

The International Forums on Buddhism and Medicine are organized by the Lerab Ling Institute of Wisdom and Compassion.

Founded by Sogyal Rinpoche, and with the gracious patronage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Lerab Ling Institute of Wisdom and Compassion seeks to present the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in a way that is both completely authentic and as relevant as possible to the lives and needs of our modern world.

In particular, Lerab Ling seeks to explore how the Buddha's teachings can benefit many different areas of contemporary life. It is this approach that has inspired the International Forums on Buddhism and Medicine since 2002.
